Our Work

Prevention
(Project Angel)

Recognizing the importance of raising awareness in communities with children, Inchara began its prevention efforts in 2014. A central aspect of our program is a comprehensive 360° approach aimed at addressing Child Sexual Abuse (CSA). We actively involve all stakeholders, including direct participants such as parents, teachers, non-teaching staff, and caregivers, as well as indirect stakeholders like local authorities and community leaders.

Through our training programs and services focused on child welfare and protection, we engage these groups effectively. Beneficiaries gain knowledge on how to safeguard children, recognize signs of abuse and report incidents. We provide children with a platform to voice their concerns and offer psychological services to those in need. Additionally, we promote legal awareness and tailor our support to meet the specific needs of schools in creating safe spaces for children.

Having a limited number of organizations in India dedicated to rehabilitating survivors of abuse, Inchara Foundation established a rehabilitation home in 2017. As the first of its kind in Mangalore, Karnataka, Inchara Home for Children (girls) is dedicated to providing holistic healing for child survivors of various forms of abuse and violence. We operate as a licensed facility in accordance with the guidelines of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act.

Our services include safe shelter, nutritious meals, quality education, medical support, skill development, creative activities, psychological services, legal aid, and family assistance, among others. In addition to our rehabilitation services, we also support young women survivors in reintegrating into society by assisting them in creating sustainable livelihoods through our aftercare programs.

Rehabilitation and Reintegration

Advocacy

As the devastating effects of abuse and violence impact not only survivors but also their families, Inchara has been forming support groups since 2020. These groups aim to create a supportive environment that encourages survivors and their families to pursue justice and navigate their cases effectively.

In addition to offering a legal platform, we provide essential family counselling services and conduct educational workshops on the POSCO Act for community members. Through advocacy and collaboration with various departments, such as the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Childline, and local police stations, we strive to expedite the legal process for survivors and their families.

Recognizing the profound impact of abuse and violence on survivors’ mental well-being, Inchara Foundation launched its community mental health initiatives in 2022. We offer a range of mental health services through our rural community centre, school counselling program, tele-counselling, and capacity building trainings, focusing on both prevention and rehabilitation.

We believe that a mentally healthy community is essential for reducing violence. Therefore, we address the psychological needs of individuals across all age groups, particularly focusing on making these services accessible and affordable for rural populations.
